As we begin a new school year, we are excited to introduce our amazing Sixth Grade Team: Ms. Scadlock and Ms. Trujillo. Together, they are dedicated to helping students make a successful transition from elementary school to junior high by fostering independence, responsibility, and confidence in both academics and personal growth.
Sixth grade is an exciting year filled with new challenges and opportunities. In language arts, students will strengthen their reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills while exploring engaging literature, mysteries, mythology, and historical texts. They will learn how to communicate effectively, support their ideas with evidence, and become thoughtful readers and writers.
In math, students will dive into ratios, rates, equations, statistical thinking, and problem-solving strategies that build a strong foundation for future middle school mathematics. Students will be encouraged to think critically, persevere through challenges, and apply math to real-world situations.
Science classes will spark curiosity as students investigate the solar system, weather and climate, ecosystems, and the ways energy impacts our world. Through hands-on activities and inquiry-based learning, students will develop the skills of scientists and engineers.
In social studies, students will explore history, geography, civics, and economics while learning how past events shape our world today. They will also develop a deeper understanding of citizenship and their role in their community.
Technology and computer science instruction will help students build digital literacy skills, learn about internet safety, explore coding concepts, and understand how technology impacts everyday life.
Most importantly, sixth grade is a year of preparation. Ms. Scadlock and Ms. Trujillo will help students develop organization, time management, study habits, and self-advocacy skills that will prepare them for the increased expectations of junior high.
We are excited for the year ahead and look forward to seeing our sixth graders grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
