Get ready for a year packed with discovery, creativity, and exciting new challenges! Our second-grade students are stepping into a year where learning comes alive, and Ms. Duclair and Ms. Hansen are excited to lead the way.

Second grade is a year of big questions and even bigger discoveries. Students will travel through time to explore ancient civilizations in Asia and Greece, uncover the mysteries of Greek myths, and learn about important events that helped shape our nation. Along the way, they will meet fascinating historical figures, explore different cultures, and see how the past connects to the world around them today.

Reading will open the door to incredible adventures. Students will enjoy fairy tales, tall tales, myths, historical stories, and informational texts that build both knowledge and imagination. One day they might be learning about Paul Bunyan or Hercules, and the next they could be investigating immigration, westward expansion, or inspiring individuals who stood up for what they believed in.

Young scientists will have plenty to explore as well. Students will learn about Earth's surface, habitats, and the properties of matter through hands-on investigations and observations. They'll ask questions, test ideas, and discover how scientists and engineers help solve problems. From studying living things to examining how our world changes over time, curiosity will be encouraged every step of the way.

Math will challenge students to think deeply and communicate their ideas. As they build fluency with addition and subtraction, develop stronger place-value skills, and work with measurement, time, money, and geometry, students will learn that there is often more than one way to solve a problem. They'll practice perseverance, strategic thinking, and explaining their reasoning.

Second grade is also a year when students become leaders in their learning. They learn to take greater responsibility, work collaboratively with classmates, and tackle projects that require creativity and determination. Confidence grows as students realize just how much they are capable of accomplishing.

Whether they are exploring ancient civilizations, investigating the natural world, writing their own stories, or solving challenging math problems, our second graders will be building skills that prepare them for future success while creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Ms. Duclair and Ms. Hansen are excited to welcome students for a year full of learning, laughter, and adventure. It's going to be an amazing year in second grade!
