A year of growth, discovery, and exciting learning is about to begin! We are proud to introduce our first-grade team, Ms. Bosgieter and Ms. Butz, who are ready to inspire, encourage, and support students as they continue their educational journey.

First grade is a year when students' confidence soars. As they become more independent learners, they strengthen important academic skills while discovering new interests and talents. Every day is filled with opportunities to explore, create, ask questions, and celebrate achievements.

In reading and language arts, students will continue building strong literacy foundations as they become more fluent readers and writers. Throughout the year, they will enjoy a wide variety of engaging topics, including fables and folktales, the human body, world cultures and civilizations, astronomy, animals and habitats, fairy tales, American history, and famous explorers. These rich learning experiences help students build vocabulary, strengthen comprehension, and deepen their understanding of the world around them.

Students will also grow as writers, learning how to share opinions, explain ideas, tell stories, and support their thinking with details. Through classroom discussions and collaborative projects, they will develop strong communication skills and learn how to express their ideas with confidence.

Math lessons will challenge students to think critically and solve problems creatively. First graders will develop fluency with addition and subtraction, explore place value, work with numbers up to 120, compare numbers, and learn measurement skills. They will also practice explaining their mathematical thinking and discovering different ways to solve problems.

Science will encourage curiosity and hands-on exploration. Students will investigate patterns in the sun, moon, and stars, discover how plants and animals survive and grow, and explore the fascinating ways light and sound interact with the world around them. Through experiments and investigations, students will begin thinking like scientists and engineers as they ask questions, gather information, and design solutions.

Beyond academics, first graders will continue building important life skills such as teamwork, responsibility, perseverance, and kindness. Through meaningful classroom experiences, they will learn how to collaborate with others, share ideas respectfully, and contribute positively to their school community.

First grade is a year filled with wonder, growth, and unforgettable moments. Ms. Bosgieter and Ms. Butz are excited to partner with families and help every student learn, achieve, and shine.
