At Wasatch Elementary, the fifth-grade team is ready to launch another exciting year of learning and discovery. With Mr. Carr and Ms. Westwood leading the way, students can look forward to a rich and varied curriculum that sparks curiosity and builds confidence. This year, fifth graders will begin by diving into personal narratives, learning how to express their own stories with clarity and voice. From there, they’ll journey through early American civilizations, exploring the cultures and innovations that shaped the Americas long before European contact.
As the year unfolds, students will explore the beauty and rhythm of poetry, then set off on a literary adventure with the timeless tale of Don Quixote. Their studies will take them through the vibrant world of the Renaissance and into the transformative ideas of the Reformation. They’ll also experience the magic and mischief of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, gaining exposure to classic literature in an accessible and engaging way. Later in the year, students will deepen their understanding of Native American history and culture, and wrap up with hands-on science as they explore the properties and changes of chemical matter.
Beyond these core units, fifth graders will continue to grow as readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, and citizens. They’ll build fluency with fractions and decimals, investigate Earth’s systems and ecosystems, and develop historical thinking and civic awareness. From coding and keyboarding to visual art and drama, students will have opportunities to express themselves and explore their interests in meaningful ways.
Whether they’re learning about Shakespeare or solving science challenges, fifth graders at Wasatch are in great hands. With teachers like Mr. Carr and Ms. Westwood guiding them, every student is set up for a year full of growth, creativity, and memorable moments.
