Second Grade Teachers

At Wasatch Elementary, second grade is a time of exciting growth and discovery. This year, students will be learning with three incredible teachers—Ms. Hansen, Ms. Hollinger, and Ms. Duclair—who bring creativity, dedication, and a genuine love for teaching into their classrooms. With their guidance, students will build confidence and curiosity as they explore new ideas and skills.

In Language Arts, students will learn how to express their thoughts clearly, listen actively, and work together with others. They will read a wide range of stories and informational texts that challenge their thinking and help them grow as readers. Writing will become a powerful tool as they learn to communicate for different purposes and audiences using strong grammar and style.

Math will focus on building a solid understanding of numbers and operations. Students will become fluent in addition and subtraction, explore place value, and learn how to measure and describe shapes. They will also develop important habits of mathematical thinking that help them solve problems and explain their reasoning.

Science will be full of hands-on exploration as students investigate Earth’s surface, learn about living things and their habitats, and experiment with the properties of matter. They will also take on the role of young engineers, designing solutions and thinking creatively about the world around them. In social studies, students will build their understanding of geography, history, civics, and economics. They will learn how to read maps, explore important events and people from the past, and think about their roles in their communities and beyond.

Healthy lifestyles will be an important part of the year as students learn how to take care of their bodies and minds. They will practice movement skills, explore fitness and nutrition, and learn how to manage emotions and make responsible choices. The arts will come alive through music, visual art, dance, and drama, giving students the chance to express themselves and explore their creativity. In technology and computer science, students will learn how computers work, how to stay safe online, and how to use digital tools to solve problems and share ideas.

Throughout the year, students will explore fascinating topics like fairy tales and tall tales, early Asian civilizations, ancient Greece and its myths, the War of 1812, cycles in nature, westward expansion, insects, the U.S. Civil War, the human body, immigration, and the fight for important causes. These topics will help students make meaningful connections between what they learn and the world around them.

Second graders at Wasatch are in for a treat next year. Any one of these amazing teachers would make second grade a year to remember. With Ms. Hansen, Ms. Hollinger, or Ms. Duclair leading the way, students are sure to thrive in a classroom full of learning, laughter, and inspiration.
